Finally, Funerus has completed it’s first major tour: the Festering Earth North American Tour 2003! Brutal thanks must go out to Ed (and his band Mortuus Terror) for doing a great job helping all the bands sound sick every night, and DISGORGE for being a great bunch of metal heads to tour with. We hope our paths cross again someday!

Killer thanks to the promoters who really came through in putting on some good shows, keep doing what you do! To those who blew it, well, eat raw sewage! Thanks should definitely go to people like Garth and Trish, as well as Rhonda and Tom for showing us great hospitality. Sorry to those we had to cancel on because of transportation problems. Hopefully we will return in the future.

Also, thanks to Rick and the guys at Dark Realm Records in Downey/LA for letting us stink up the place and sign some flyers, Enrique and his Music Obscured shop; Louis, Erick and Serpens Aeon; Roberto and Infinitum Obscure; Laura and Warface and all of the other sick bands we played with. Also, thanks to Alex/Blackthorn of Thornspawn for being a true metal warrior.

STAY BRUTAL AND HAIL EL DISGORGIO!!!

News Update July 5, 2003

Funerus was scheduled to play the pre-Blodlust show on Friday June 27th in Sydney Austalia with Oni, Miscreation, Grenade, and Incantation. On the way to the show, being driven by a roadie from Incantations "Blasphemy Down Under" tour, members of Funerus and Incantation were involved in a high speed motor vehicle accident, resulting in ambulance trips to the hospital for John and Jill McEntee, Kyle Severn and his wife Melissa. Both bands missed playing the pre-Bloodlust show due to all night long testing in the hospital.

Fortunatly it turned out that most injuries were minor, although everyone was very bruised and sore! Things were not looking good for Incantation to play the Bloodlust III festival due to Kyles injuries, but luckily things worked out as Dave Haley, drummer for Psycroptic, was able to learn a few Incantation songs within a matter of hours so Incantation could still do, although a very short on as compared to the 90 minute set they were playing for the tour.

Since Incantation was going to play such a short set, there was room for Funerus to be on the Bloodlust bill. Only there was short time to find a drummer to fill Kyles shoes. Cameron from Psycrotic recommened Matt from Oni, who couldn't have been a better choice! Jill was introduced to Matt at the Bloodlust fest, and after Matt listened to the Funerus cd, he eagerly agreed to help out the band. Matt learned 4 Funerus songs within a matter of hours from cd. John and Jill were able to practice the songs a few times with Matt before going onstage in front of 800 to 1,000 people.

As soon as Funerus hit the stage, a short explanation was given by Jill to the crowd as to the line-up change, due to the accident, and also because Funerus vocalist/guitarist Brad Heiple could not make the trip to Australia, leaving John McEntee to do the vocals for the show. So as a 3 piece with John, Jill and Matt, Funerus played 4 songs with a killer response from the crowd. Matt played a flawless set on drums, and Funerus hails Matt for a job well done,a true metal brother!

Funerus would also like to thank Daniel Zajc for the oppurtunity to play Bloodlust III festival in Sydney Australia

South of the Border Brutality Tour 2003 Wrap-up:

The mini-tour of Mexico w/Incantation was an awesome experience. Many thanks go out to the people who helped to make that happen, especially: Alberto Gaona and Deimos Productions (Too many thanks! You rule!) and Nelson “Pelon” (best roadie/sound/security person ever!) for everything, Arturo Setilo and his Mom (As Productions) for their help, the IRA guys for the BBQ and drinking, Veronica for the cop stories, bands we played with (Skeptic Universe, Dream of Nebiros, Dragon Spell, Malleus Malleficarum, and others), and definitely the metal warriors of Gomez Palacia/Torreon/Durango/Monterrey for making us feel welcome. And, not to mention, Incantation for having us along on their Blasfemia en Mexico tour.

An In-depth page devoted to this tour will be up soon…
